Mixon View – far reaching countryside views
We had a wonderful stay at Mixon View. Paul and Kate had thought of everything and the little touches were much appreciated. The location was perfect for some beautiful scenic walks and some adventures a little further afield into the Peak District. It was so nice to be able to come back to a log fire and fairy lights and a warm, cosy home from home. The bed was comfortable, the shower wonderful and everything was to such a high standard. One of the greatest pleasures was waking up and watching the birds from the window, with far reaching countryside views with all the beautiful colours of autumn. We had such a relaxing, peaceful little break away and can’t recommend highly enough!
Mixon View – small but cosy
Our 3rd stay, but this time in Mixon View, the small but cosy cottage next to Morridge View. The weather brought us mist, rain and cold for our November visit. But we still got out and about and then headed back to our warm and cosy cottage and soon got the log burner fired up with a plentiful supply of logs. It has everything you would need and would highly recommend a stay here.
Mixon View – finished to a very high standard
We stayed in Mixon View which is finished to a very high standard and very well equipped. We intended to take bikes but decided not to given the weather forecast was for rain every day, in the end it wasn’t too bad and we got out to walk every day, there are plenty of places to visit, walk and eat locally, we stayed within 10 miles every day but one. Already planning our next visit…
Mixon View – well appointed and clean
We had a wonderful stay at Mixon view Its really well appointed and clean but has loads of character The outside seating area is absolutely perfect for quiet relaxation as you watch the local wildlife and the rolling countryside Its a great base for exploring the peaks , there’s an abundance of great walks and lots of good old fashioned pubs in the area The smart TVs are a bonus to a cottage that is excellent in every respect.
Morridge and Mixon View together
A group of friends and I spent the weekend at Lane Head Barns in January 2023 and had the best time. The accommodation is a lovely barn conversion with all the basics and luxuries one could wish for during a weekend away. We hired both the 10-bed and 2-bed cottages at the same time and the space worked perfectly for 12 people. It was a really cosy environment with the log burner, and I could imagine it would also be great in the summer with the outside spaces. Lane Head Barns is in a great location in the stunning Peak District and close enough to points of interest/activities. Kate (owner) was extremely helpful from the first time I made contact to enquire about the property and made us feel welcome during our stay. She was on hand to help us with things we needed during our stay without being overbearing. The accommodation was particularly perfect for us as it has one accessible bedroom and ensuite, and the whole set up worked perfectly for a member of our group who uses a wheelchair. But I would highly recommend a stay at Lane Head Barns for groups with or without accessibility needs. I thought it was great value for money and would stay there again myself. Thank you Kate for everything 🙂
Morridge View: Just perfect
Kate & Paul put a lot of love and detailed attention into this special holiday home; they work incredibly hard to think of absolutely everything to make our stay wonderful.
We are a three generation family and have just had our second annual stay. Truthfully we would happily return next year if it weren’t for wanting to explore another part of the country.
Very well equipped, spacious, warm, exceptionally clean … but also welcoming. Such a thoughtful selection of goodies greeted us and also, Kate was quick to respond if required.
Once we’ve stayed in other areas I feel sure we will return.
Mixon View: Simply the best.
We can only echo all the previous accolades – simply the best! Our first visit to this area and this cottage. All the ‘boxes’ ticked – even a morning visit from Mr Fox – as if he owned the place.
Our thanks for the loving care you have ‘invested’ in Mixon View, and Mother Nature has provided an idyllic environment (Mr Fox on a mission for his breakfast?)
As we depart, autumnal colours add another dimension – beckoning us to return.
Morridge View: Such a wonderful place to stay as an extended (4 generation) family group.
Thoughtful layout helped my vision-impaired mother relax. Beautifully finished and very comfortable cottage, everything we needed was provided. The location was amazing – courtyard with views of the surrounding hills. Very peaceful, but close to places of interest – Chatsworth, Dovedale, Tittesworth Reservoir (water sports), plus lots of lovely local walks. We will definitely return!
Relax, Rejuvenate CHILL!
When you walk into Mixon View you’re greeted by a view out over the fields and hills of the southern Peak District. That promise of serenity is fulfilled. Whether you choose to spend time out on the lovely patio, or within the cottage – you feel ‘at home’…but away, and able to sit back and enjoy. The accommodation is spacious for one or two people, and – as others have observed – everything you could possibly need is to hand.
The location is out of the way, but not remote. It’s an easy, quick journey into Leek – or, indeed to a number of other nearby towns and villages. I had my bike with me and enjoyed several rides – to Stoke-on-Trent, the Roaches and Manifold Valley – very enjoyable. Kate and Paul are very welcoming hosts, only too happy to provide assistance if needed – and to leave you alone if not.
Highly recommend!
Just stayed for a week in Mixon View what a lovely cottage.
Impressed with the quality of everything.
Been to many cottages and found the log burner the best and easiest to use ever.
Kate and Paul greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome and they were helpful for the whole time we were there.
Well recommended
Mixon View is a beautiful 17th Century Barn Conversion finished to an exceptionally high standard. Great location and very peaceful.
A gem not to be missed – don’t hesitate – just book.
For a perfect Peak District stay, I stayed at Morridge View, a gorgeous barn conversion on the fringe of the National Park, just a few miles outside of Leek. The barn sleeps up to ten people and is the perfect spot for getting out and exploring. The downstairs double bedroom was particularly great as its en-suite wet room includes grab rails, shower seat and other adapted fittings.
We spent a week with family friends at Morridge View. It is a barn conversion of high standard with modern fixtures and fittings, but still felt like a cosy cottage. The bedrooms were comfortable with enough storage. Kitchen was well equipped, stocked with basics and there were a couple of bottles of wines to greet us. Accommodation is ideal for group. Dining and living area had enough seating for 10 people so all of us could dine and relax together. All four bathrooms had shower enclosures which was great. Weather was not on our side, but on one (and only!) sunny day, we had a group lunch outside on a well-equipped patio with beautiful views. Location is rural and isolated which we prefer. There was no mobile signal at the cottage, but there is decent Wi-Fi which worked well in ground floor areas. Ours was the first booking post-lockdown and we found the cottage spotless. Owners were next door and were prompt in responding to our WhatsApp messages (due to social distancing). Check-in and check-out were contactless. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would recommend this cottage as an excellent choice for holidaying in the Peak District.
The quality of the accommodation is great, a perfect place for a group or family get together. We were lucky enough to see two lambs born when we stayed there Expect a warm welcome and the opportunity to see the countryside at its most beautiful
There isn’t anythying negative we can say, the property is beautiful with quality fixtures and fittings, the views are fantastic and we had an added bonus of great weather ( cold but bright). Kate was very helpful before our trip and welcoming on arrival and also left a much appreciated welcome pack too. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to this absolute gem!
Morridge View – highly recommended

Morridge View – early Christmas with friends
We really enjoyed our return stay in Morridge to celebrate an early Christmas with friends. We were 9 in total and the barn worked perfectly for young and old alike. Kate and Paul have created a spacious, cosy and warm home from home. We really appreciated the small touches such as the delicious welcome basket, stacked and prepared wood burner, and the Christmas fairy lights. Everything is very well thought through and we wanted for nothing. The location is perfect for country walks, drives through the Manifold valley, trips to Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne and Leek. We also enjoyed our visits to Chatsworth and the hidden gem of Haddon Hall. For meals out we recommend the Black Lion in Butterton and Mehek which is a 7 minute drive away. I was a little concerned beforehand about the Wi-Fi situation as I needed to work from the barn during the week. However despite no mobile signal, the Wi-Fi worked well and I was able to work effectively from the barn. Paul and Kate are gracious hosts and have created a great space. We will definitely return in the near future.

Morridge View – so close to so many activities including Alton Towers
This is a wonderful homely feeling holiday home. The moment you walk through the door the lovely fairy lights are a delight. The comfortable seating area for relaxing, following through the open plan arrangement to the tv area. A nice long table for eating those family meals and playing games after dinner. An island to separate you from the main kitchen, which has every appliance you can imagine and more. The finishing touch to downstairs is the picturesque window in the kitchen. When sitting in the living room area you look up and down the run of the house to look through the ever changing landscape. What a lovely picture it makes. All the bedrooms upstairs and comfortable and well thought out. They all have plenty of room, nothing is crammed in. Ensuites were an added bonus to three of the rooms and the family bathroom was a very good size. This house is so close to so many activities including Alton Towers which is just 10 mins down the road. Would i recommend this property, yes i would in a heartbeat. We were three generations and had plenty of space for everyone. No complaints about lack of space or comfort and we would all return without hesitation. So look out Morridge the Croney, Stopher, Stoneman family will be back.

Family stay in Mixon View and Morridge View
My husband and I had a week at the smaller barn and after a weekend alone were joined by family in the large barn who stayed four nights. Just a fantastic holiday to celebrate my husband’s 75th birthday. The accommodation suited us perfectly. We especially liked being able to eat and relax together after a fun day out exploring the area. Everything is clean and fresh and the kitchen is amply equipped to make all meals. Kate and Paul were on hand but not intrusive ( I suspect we were the intruders with children playing football and running about giggling and making merry)…there were bike rides on the hills around, walks, hikes and visits to the wildlife park and Ilam ( national trust) as well as a morning at Buxton and various pub visits too. There are fabulous sheep everywhere and wonderful trails from outside the back door. We will treasure the memory.. and I expect make a return visit next year. Many thanks to Kate and Paul. We highly recommend this wonderful pair of properties.

Mixon View: Gorgeous cottage
It has been a real joy staying at Mixon View. We’ve both really managed to unwind and relax in such a gorgeous cottage and countryside. Thank you both.
Looking forward to a return visit.
Morridge View – advertises for 10 and actually fits 10!
We’ve had a great week! Group of 10, including 2 wheelchair users. One of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Excellent home comforts. Recommend Ladybower Fisheries for an accessible and inclusive boating activity. Duke Barns was also great – we all did abseiling over a viaduct which was brilliant. Carsington Water very accessible too. Beauitiful scenary in this part of the world. Particularly liked that the accommodation advertises for 10 and does actually fit 10. Big table to fit everyone, sofas and plenty of crockery. Great example of a holiday let. If only they were all as good as this.
Mixon View is modern, comfortable and very roomy, the perfect size for two
The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer. Great TV and no issues with WiFi signal for streaming. The bedroom is huge but still cosy and the bed is very comfy. We loved the two sinks in the shower room. Speaking of the shower, it was always lovely and hot with great water pressure. We really enjoyed the patio, especially in the really warm weather. A great place to have breakfast, lunch and tea! Or just enjoy a cuppa and look out over the stunning view. We really enjoyed watching the sheep and the various birds, including a couple of woodpeckers. There is also excellent secure storage for our two bikes/bike rack. Good parking too. The location is fab, rural but near enough to Leek for the essentials. There is a lovely big Sainsbury’s in Leek and a few other smaller supermarkets too. There is so much to do in the area, lots even within 10 minutes!
Family weekend
We very much enjoyed our family weekend at Morridge View. We were a group of 10 of different generations and the space worked perfectly for us. The bedrooms are all furnished to a high quality and the en-suites and family bathroom are fitted to a very high standard. The living/dining/kitchen area is perfect for a large group, with plenty of space both at the dining table and on the very comfortable seating. The open plan aspect of it means that all of the group can be together, even whilst doing different things, and the log-burning stove added to the cosy atmosphere in the evening. The kitchen is very well equipped, and again, all is of a high quality. Wifi was very good. We enjoyed trips to nearby Leek both for a shopping trip and for a meal at an excellent Italian restaurant, and also enjoyed some great walks directly from the property. We thoroughly recommend a stay here. Many thanks to our hosts, Kate and Paul.
We had a lovely stay at Mixon view at the end of August. The accommodation was beautiful, clean, and had everything you could possibly need. The views from the garden were amazing and it was so relaxing. There was even a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us on arrival, which was a lovely touch.
Kate and Paul were very welcoming, and would answer any questions we had if needed, but equally let us get on with things.
The location was also great and not a long drive to many of the tourist attractions and great walks in the Peak District.
We loved it and have already recommended Mixon View to many of our family and friends.
This lovely 5 bedroomed barn conversion is beautifully presented in a lovely rural location, but near to lots of attractions including Alton towers and the Peak district.
We stayed for 5 days as two families ( who have bubbled together).
Our daughter is a wheelchair user. there is a lovely downstairs room and en-suite wet room which worked really well for her. Access into and around the property is great.
The bedrooms were all great and a good size. The kitchen is really well stocked, there is a lovely large dining table which we all easily fitted around and at the lounge end, plenty of sofas and a cozy wood burner. The house was lovely and toasty.
Just a note, there is no phone reception, but good wifi.
Kate, the owner lives next door and was very approachable, but left us to enjoy our holiday. I Would thoroughly recommend staying here and hope to return soon.
A high quality barn conversion in an idyllic setting, with great walks, some from the cottage. Everything provided with a fully equipped kitchen making it the perfect base for a walking holiday. Good pub food in the village a mile away, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and family, hopefully we’ll return.
The kitchen had every gadget, jar, cooking utensil etc that you could possibly need. The rooms were very comfortable and all the bathrooms were clean, new and worked well. We had electronic heating we could adjust and WIFI and TV’s all worked well. The location was fabulous, very quiet and we managed to fit in some fantastic walks despite the weather. Kate was very welcoming and there were even a couple of bottles of wine waiting for us.
It’s a large barn conversion with a cottage feel. The barn is very well laid out and lends its self to a group of friends sharing with enough space for everyone. It’s clean and tastefully decorated throughout. Beds are comfortable and it has everything you could need for a self catering stay. We loved the large space and being able to stay together when cooking or sitting in front of the fire. The local area is full of things to do.. a nice walk to the local pub or a visit to the Peak Wildlife park. We came for Christmas and Morridge view was perfect. The owners had decorated the barn and it was magical! Not just a tree but beautiful twinkly touches everywhere. Such a nice surprised and wow factor when we arrived. We would definitely stay here again and really can’t recommend it enough.
